Dressed in the story of their people
Every headdress, shawl and bead necklace marks a tribe, a clan and a history. At Kisama, the 16-plus Naga tribes arrive in their finest traditional attire, and each outfit tells you who they are.
Featured expedition 3 Days / 2 Nights · Nagaland, Northeast India
A journey into the living cultures of Nagaland
Experience the vibrant cultural heritage of Nagaland through its most celebrated annual gathering, the Hornbill Festival. We take you from Dimapur into the hills of Kohima, culminating in a full day at Kisama Heritage Village.
Witness the traditions, music, dances, indigenous games, craftsmanship and culinary heritage of Nagaland's diverse Naga communities. Designed for travellers with limited time: a rich introduction without an extended regional tour.
The festival in pictures
Every headdress, shawl and bead necklace marks a tribe, a clan and a history. At Kisama, the 16-plus Naga tribes arrive in their finest traditional attire, and each outfit tells you who they are.

Tug of war, wrestling and other traditional sports fill the arena, with the stands full of families in festival colours cheering every pull.
The festival is also a reunion: villages, friends and families meet across the grounds, share food, trade stories and dance together.
What's included
Start each day with breakfast and end it with dinner, with traditional Naga dishes on the table so you taste the region, not just see it.
Comfortable private vehicle (such as an Innova) with an experienced local driver for the whole journey, from Dimapur to Kohima and Kisama and back.
We guide you through the Inner Line Permit that Nagaland requires, and tell you what to submit before you arrive.

Eco journeys, forest immersion and sustainable living experiences in and around Auroville. Slow, small-group and rooted in silence, nature and community.
We are neither commercial tourism nor spiritual escapism. We explore the Earth and the Self as one.
Live fully in the present. Drop the masks, laugh, breathe, and meet each moment as it is.
Observe without judgment. Be free of old conditioning and see "what is" without distortion.
Life is a journey of the soul through matter towards the spirit. Every landscape becomes a teacher.
Community is not uniformity. It is a harmony of differences gathered around a shared aspiration.
Our heart & focus
Walk lightly. Learn deeply. Our eco journeys take you into forests, gardens, farms and an experimental township that is reimagining how humans can live with the Earth, and invite you to take part, not just watch.
Hands-on workshops with local artisans using renewable and reclaimed materials. Take home something you made, and know where it came from.
From forest walks to sound healing, find the experience that calls you. Combine them into a retreat or take one on its own.
Regular and upcoming experiences facilitated by Rahul in Auroville.
Most travel is about escape. Shunyam is about return: to presence, to inner stillness, to the joy of simply being.
If you crave more than the superficial, if you sense there is more to life than speed, comfort or ticking off destinations, this is your path.
"Life must blossom like a flower offering itself."
Community is not created, it is discovered. It arises when people meet in presence, not in agreement.
Every journey is a space for real connection, where travellers move from silence, share from truth, and return transformed.
We work with Auroville-based communities, artists, healers and ecologically rooted spaces.
Meditation, dialogue, contemplative inquiry and embodied practices that invite authentic presence and deep listening.
Soul-led contribution and collective responsibility, with no role-playing and no comparison.
Not as tourists but as seekers. Not as consumers but as co-creators.
It is not
about belonging. It is about becoming.
Shunyam Expedition was founded by a seeker who has lived in Auroville for seven years, deepening a commitment to conscious living, collective growth and the adventure of becoming. Our mission is to offer travel as a path to self-discovery, rooted in silence, presence and conscious evolution, run as a financially sustainable and emotionally transformative enterprise.
Independent facilitator and creative practitioner based in Auroville since 2017, specialising in embodied movement, experience design and creative practice.
